One of Europe’s biggest steel works damaged in Ukraine’s Mariupol

One of Europe’s greatest iron and steel works, Azovstal, has been badly broken as Russian forces lay siege to the Ukrainian port metropolis of Mariupol, officials reported Sunday.

“A single of the greatest metallurgic plants in #Europe ruined. The economic losses for #Ukraine are big. The atmosphere is devastated,” tweeted Ukrainian lawmaker Lesia Vasylenko.

Vasylenko posted a online video of explosions on an industrial web page, with thick columns of gray and black smoke growing from the properties.

A person of her colleagues, Serhiy Taruta, wrote on Fb that Russian forces “experienced virtually destroyed the manufacturing facility”.

“We will return to the metropolis, rebuild the company and revive it,” Azovstal’s director common Enver Tskitishvili wrote on messaging app Telegram, without having specifying the extent of the destruction.

He reported that when the invasion commenced on February 24, the factory experienced taken measures to decrease the environmental problems in the event of getting strike.
