New Zealand’s NZME, Google to discuss news delivery terms amid fair payment push

March 25 (Reuters) – New Zealand media company NZME (NZM.NZ) said on Friday it has signed a letter of intent with Google to define terms for news material supply, as the country’s publishers choose on electronic platforms above truthful payment for news exhibited on their internet sites.

NZME, which owns the New Zealand Herald, also claimed it was in conversations with Facebook mum or dad Meta Platforms (FB.O) over numerous electronic projects for following 12 months.

New Zealand’s news publishers association had sought approval to collectively deal with Meta Platforms and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) unit Google for good payments, but NZME selected to interact with the tech giants specifically.

NZME will enter a 90-working day period of negotiation with Google to finalise key conditions of the proposed offer of its information material to Google’s News Showcase and other information solutions, it reported on Friday.

The remaining offer was meant to be for a least of five several years.

The firm’s portfolio incorporates various regional newspapers, as effectively as radio channels and on-line internet websites.

NZME also stated it expects 2022 main earnings involving NZ$67 million ($46.63 million) and NZ$72 million, if it finalises the offer with Google at the conclude of the negotiation interval.
