10 killed in cloudburst near Amarnath shrine


At minimum 10 individuals have been killed when a cloudburst close to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas activated flash floods Friday evening that also ruined 25 tents and three neighborhood kitchens, police officers explained.

3 persons have been rescued, they claimed.

The cloudburst struck all over 5.30 pm amid large rainfall, they reported.

The gushing waters strike the base camp outdoors the shrine, harming 25 tents and 3 group kitchens the place the pilgrims are served foods, they stated.

10 individuals had been killed in the incident even as police, army and NDRF personnel launched a rescue operation, the officers mentioned.

An NDRF workforce was already there even though two much more teams are being rushed, they added. Primary Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish more than the incident.

“Anguished by the cloud burst in close proximity to Shree Amarnath cave. Condolences to the bereaved family members. Spoke to @manojsinha_ Ji and took stock of the condition. Rescue and aid operations are underway. All feasible help is remaining offered to the afflicted.” Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed central forces and Jammu and Kashmir administration to guarantee swift rescue functions.

Shah said in a Tweet in Hindi that he has spoken to J&K LG Manoj Sinha to acquire inventory of the situation.

“NDRF, CRPF, BSF and community administration are engaged in the rescue work. Preserving people’s lives is our precedence. I want all the devotees well,” the minister said.

Sinha said he is carefully monitoring the problem and instructed all anxious to supply vital help to the pilgrims.

“Deeply pained by unlucky incident of cloudburst at Shri Amarnathji holy cave, in which valuable lives have been lost. I ship my heartfelt condolences to bereaved households. Rescue operation by NDRF, SDRF, BSF, Military, JKP & Shrine board admin is in progress,” he tweeted.
